Common Ground is a communal initiative that was founded by the AStA of the University of Arts Berlin under the name of Support Refugees. We connect, support and inform students, newcomers and social art projects by collecting and bundling the necessary resources and make them centrally available.
We understand ourselves as an incubator, where skills and experiences accumulated during one of our projects can be exchanged so that others may benefit. Our aim is to enable dialogue between Newcomers and Locals on a level playing field, thereby contributing in a positive and sustainable way to the changes our society is facing.
Our Aim
Our projects goal is to exemplify a united way of life and learning that understands diversity as an opportunity. We refuse to partake in the logic of a division between „us“ and „them“.
Whether it’s an exhibition, a workshop or a concert: The possibilities for participation in an academic context and in regard to the current migration issue are vast and we aim to make them visible and accessible.

Who We Are
In early 2015, Lea and Mehtap founded the project as part of their work for the UdK AStA. In Autumn 2015, six more students joined the team to realize existing ideas and further the projects’ reach. Since then, three more students joined Common Ground and provided the team with new ideas and much-needed translation skills.
Together with our supporters we are establishing Common Ground as a means of getting involved. We want to create inclusive offerings for all people and with your help we can do it!
